In mid-April, we received second grade Bible school students here in Skopje. We divided the students into two teams, one team went with Jan (missionary in North Macedonia) to Kosovo and one team stayed with me in Skopje. We were supposed to organize a sports day for young people that Saturday, but due to complications we were late in distributing the invitations. So we handed out the invitations to the tournament in a hurry on Friday. We went to the school, Orce Nikolov High School, where we had rented a gymnasium and a football field. Around the school grounds there were many young people, and we took the opportunity to invite them to the tournament in the hope that they would come.
The next day it was time for sports day and four young people were already there when we arrived and prepared to play volleyball. Time passed and it didn’t seem like more people would come, but after a while several people signed up for the tournament. Twenty people came, and we were able to organize both a football and volleyball match! Everyone who participated was very happy that we had taken the initiative. The aim of the tournament was to connect with the young people and invite them to the youth meeting in the evening. Two people who had watched the tournament came that evening to the youth meeting, and they invited two other friends who came a little later.
There we had the opportunity to pray and testify for them! Looking back, I’m glad we didn’t cancel the tournament despite the circumstances. The young people who came had fun and we made good contact with some of them.
God was always in control and the day went beyond all our expectations!
