Back to Romania – A new beginning

Alexandru and Salomeea Bala spent last year at Word of Life Bible Center in Uppsala to be equipped for ministry in their home country, Romania. Here they share about their first period back home and their expectations for the future.

It is a great joy to be back in Romania, our home country, after completing Bible school. We are filled with expectation as we now step into full-time ministry here.

For most of the summer, we have been in Alba Iulia, where we have strengthened our ties with our home church. Alex had the opportunity to preach at a couple of Sunday services and encouraged the congregation to take new steps of faith. We also visited the youth summer camp, where Alex was part of the prayer team. It was amazing to see the strong hunger for God among the young people and how the Holy Spirit was moving in their midst. So many came forward for prayer that almost all the chairs in the audience were left empty.

We also visited a small village church in the northern part of the country, where Alex preached, and we enjoyed warm and heartfelt fellowship with our brothers and sisters in faith.

Later in the summer, we moved to Brașov, the city where God has led us to plant a Word of Life church. Right now, we are focusing on praying for the city, building relationships, and planning our first event. Although everything is new to us here and we are still in the process of settling in, God’s peace, goodness, and guidance are so tangible in our lives. We look forward with great expectation to what God will do in this city!

LOBC-Team: Healing and restoration in Bolivia

It was Wednesday morning when we arrived, exhausted after a dramatic 36-hour journey and running on barely two hours of sleep. A kind man from a local church picked us up and welcomed us into his home. As we sat together making small talk, he began to sing a Swedish worship song, sharing from his time as a missionary there. In that moment, the weight of the journey caught up with us, and we began to cry. Questions filled our minds: what was going to happen on this trip, could God really use us like this, and did we even have the strength to be there? He gently encouraged us to rest, and after a short nap we were picked up by the pastor and reunited with the rest of the team. After breakfast and several hours of sleep, we felt more alive—still tired, but ready. We were reminded that in our weakness, God is our strength.

It is time for Laos!

So wonderful to be back in Laos. I was here the first time 25 years ago, and ever since that visit, something in my heart has remained connected to this beautiful nation. I have always wanted to come back—and now, finally, I am here again. Walking these streets, meeting the people, and sensing God’s presence so strongly reminds me that His timing is always perfect.
