Proclaiming Light in Darkness: Planting seeds in Brașov

In the embrace of November’s darkness, a handful of fellow students from LOBC and I were sent to Romania to proclaim the gospel of light along the cobblestone streets of Brașov (Acts 26:18).

We were sent on a short but intense missionary journey, entrusted with the call to lay the very first spiritual foundation stones in the soil here. We believe that the Word of Life and revival will take hold in Brașov, as a new church is raised up in Jesus’ name (Acts 2:17).

Alex Bala shepherded us closely throughout our stay. The focus and aim of the mission were anchored in a Revival Night, serving as the church’s first gathering. This was my very first experience of mission work, and it was challenging to arrive in a place where nothing had yet been established. Yet it is an honor to take part in planting a seed that, through consistency and time, will grow big and strong.

Like the first believers in the book of Acts (Acts 2:42–46), Alex’s small home became a daily sanctuary: a place of prayer and worship, devotion, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and Spirit-filled conversations. This showed me that mission is not only about serving, but also about being present together in God’s presence through prayer and thanksgiving, welcoming and proclaiming the Holy Spirit over the city.

As farmers in God’s field, we can testify to a warm reception of the gospel of peace on the streets of Brașov. In a land where Orthodox religion runs deep, conversations about Jesus came naturally. Many expressed frustration with institutional religion and were struck by the good news of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ (Acts 2:37). We had the privilege of praying for people, preaching the gospel, and inviting residents of Brașov to the Revival Night, which became a powerful gathering where the Holy Spirit filled the space among us.

As on the streets of Sweden, there is a noticeable openness and hunger in the eyes of Generation Z (Luke 10:2). As disciples of Jesus, the Lord of light, we must do as he has called us: to fish people out of darkness.

LOBC-Team: Healing and restoration in Bolivia

It was Wednesday morning when we arrived, exhausted after a dramatic 36-hour journey and running on barely two hours of sleep. A kind man from a local church picked us up and welcomed us into his home. As we sat together making small talk, he began to sing a Swedish worship song, sharing from his time as a missionary there. In that moment, the weight of the journey caught up with us, and we began to cry. Questions filled our minds: what was going to happen on this trip, could God really use us like this, and did we even have the strength to be there? He gently encouraged us to rest, and after a short nap we were picked up by the pastor and reunited with the rest of the team. After breakfast and several hours of sleep, we felt more alive—still tired, but ready. We were reminded that in our weakness, God is our strength.

It is time for Laos!

So wonderful to be back in Laos. I was here the first time 25 years ago, and ever since that visit, something in my heart has remained connected to this beautiful nation. I have always wanted to come back—and now, finally, I am here again. Walking these streets, meeting the people, and sensing God’s presence so strongly reminds me that His timing is always perfect.
