Coming to cold Sweden was not a given from the start. But after one of his friends came back after a year at LOBC, visibly transformed, a curiosity began to grow. His friend also brought a group from the Bible school to the Czech Republic for the summer vacation. Jan remembers that one of them had asked him if Bible school wasn’t for him, to which he had clearly replied “no”.

“I had been here for several Youth Conferences and also the European Conference, so the Word of Life was not foreign to me. But two weeks before the start of the Bible School, I still had no idea that I would actually go. I remember sitting on a train and praying. Suddenly, I felt that I absolutely had to go to Bible school this fall – I had to move to Uppsala! I started arguing with myself about why I shouldn’t go, maybe next year or some other year down the road, but I felt so clearly an inner compulsion that I must go now, this fall.”

Jan then packed his bags and moved to Uppsala, something he would not regret.

What he had thought would be one year at the Bible school, instead became three. First, Year 1 and Year 2, then a special Year 3 team called IMPACT, which focused solely on missions and mission trips.

“I remember my heart for missions started long before Bible school. I remember sitting in meetings and hearing about unreached peoples and nations and something grabbed my heart and tears started to flow. I didn’t realize that missions would be for me, but it was only during Bible school when we went on missions that I started to realize that maybe it was something after all.”

Jan, together with several from the Bible school, traveled on mission trips throughout Europe and Asia to preach, missionize, evangelize and support churches for a year and a half after the end of the Bible school. The group was formed when several from the second year did not want to stop but continue with mission trips together.

After that, Jan was asked to move to the Balkans with three others and be stationed as missionaries. They have seen God work in an amazing way and many new doors, contacts, relationships and regions have miraculously opened during their time there. This is his second year in North Macedonia and he is excited about all God has for them. They will be visited by many teams from both Uppsala and Europe in the coming year, including a strong focus on evangelism.

“To see people receive Jesus, be saved and trained in discipleship is so close to my heart. If I get the opportunity to work with missions, church planting or similar for the rest of my life, it would be amazing, because it is something I believe can change the world. I love mission work, it’s something that gives meaning and is so important!”

In the fall of 2020, Jan moved from the Czech Republic to Uppsala to study at the Word of Life Bible School.
